This is a proof of concept study to examine the utility of geographically distributed smart phone atmospheric pressure sensor measurements contributing to a regional sea-level pressure field analysis. The sensor data would need to be acquired over a region at time intervals during a significant weather event such as a severe thunderstorm. The height of the sensor would need to be determined, corrected from the measurement height to sea level, and filtered to remove noise and outlier information by checking against benchmark data from weather stations.
