Here at Aqua-Tek, we specialize in thermal energy management  of aquaculture recirculation systems.  Our primary customer, Dr. George Buzyna, is looking for a cost-effective way to manage thermal energy of an aquaculture recirculating facility for use in shrimp farming.  The customer would like us to design a computer controlled system capable of maintaining a near constant temperature of about 82 degrees Fahrenheit, year round.  Additionally, the customer has requested that the system include a filtration system and use an alternative energy source for heat.

Upon extensive research and evaluation of existing systems, we decided that the customer's needs would best be satisfied by using a system that uses solar energy as the primary heat source.  The circulation and filtration system is still powered using conventional electric pumps, but the energy saved by heating the water with solar power is significant.  Using such a system, we anticipate water temperature increases of as much as 15 degrees even during the late fall and early spring, which will extend the farming season by several months.  A more detailed explanation of the system and our reasoning can be found at the following links.
