Creating a tangible scale model based on the latitudes
created in stage_1
- Creating the plug
- The latitudes drawn in AutoCAD were reduced to 1:10 scale and plotted
on 8.5" x 11" white paper
- Each latitude and the centerline longitude were cut out and pasted onto
a 12" x 24" sheet of 3mm thick Birch plywood
- The latitudes and the longitude were cut
from the sheet using a scroll saw.
- The plug was constructed using wood glue to hold the pieces in place
as shown.
- Filling and coating the plug
- The plug was filled by using wood glue to secure cubes of pink
modeling foam in the gaps between the latitudes as
shown.
- The foam was sanded down to the heights of the latitudes as
shown
- The model was covered with slightly diluted wall spackling to create
a smoother, more paintable surface as shown
