The Senior Design Project
The mechanical engineering senior design project consists of a single class that
spans two semesters, fall and spring. During
the first semester the mechanical engineers learn the design process through
lectures and application and during the second semester the students implement
their design. As being a part of
the Multidisciplinary Design and Training Clinic (MDTC) our senior design
project also called on the design assistance from electrical, computer, and industrial
engineering disciplines. The
electrical engineers did their work pro bono for the first semester and received
credit for their work the second semester in their own senior design class.
The sole industrial engineer, a pH-D candidate, was hired as the mentor
for our design.
The
overall design process was split into two phases, the design (Phase One) and
prototype implementation (Phase Two).
