The
combustion chamber in an internal combustion engine consists of an upper and
lower portion. The upper portion of the chamber comprises the bottom of the
cylinder head and the cylinder wall. The lower portion of the chamber is made up
of the piston head (crown), the piston rings, and the cylinder wall. It is
important to note that the piston rings and more precisely the compression rings
make the seal around the piston to prevent blow by and help produce compression.
