Project Plan & Procedure

The project plan was devised using Microsoft project. The plan will coincide with the dates that assignments are due for this class. Each group member will be given an appropriate amount of time to complete each objective. The work will be distributed evenly over both semesters. Regular meetings with Shaw Industries are scheduled and plant visit will also be conducted.

The time frames that are put forward in the outline are the best guess estimates at the current time. Some dates may change based on the circumstances that present themselves. The group will try its hardest to stick to the plan as much as possible. All group members have decided on the basics of the project plan and the details of the timeline. Everybody knows what needs to be done and an idea of when it needs to be completed by.

The project plan begins with visiting the plant and taking measurements. Based on the measurements the group will then come up with preliminary ideas. From these ideas a basic design will be developed. Drawings and specifications for all of the parts will then be completed. This design will then be presented to Shaw Industries and any changes that they suggest will be made. The next step will be to actually construct the package handling system. All parts will be ordered and then assembled before the end of the semester.

The plans and procedures that have been drawn for this project were to ensure that the needs that were put forth by Shaw Industries are fulfilled.  Now that all of the tasks and procedures involved in designing and constructing this device have been laid out, it will be much easier to not only run the weekly meetings, but to keep track of what each team member is doing, and how what they are doing relates to what everyone else is doing.  These plans and procedures will also be used to help the other team members who are not in the ME senior design class keep track of when the ME’s are given presentations and handing in assignments.  To summarize, these plans will help this project run in an orderly, timely manner.
