About Group

Brian Arent was born and raised in Portsmouth Rhode Island, the home of Democracy. I moved to South Florida for my junior and senior years in high school and decided to stay in the south and attend Florida State University. I have attended FSU for the last 5 years and have enjoyed every moment. On May 1st I will finally be graduating with my Bachelor of Science Degree in Mechanical Engineering. While studying Mechanical Engineering at Florida State I have taken specialty classes in Vehicle Design, Thermo-fluid Design, Magnet Design, and Propulsion Systems. I hope to get a job working in design, propulsion systems, or thermal fluid design areas.

Gary Adam Merritt, Adam, was born in Winter Haven, Florida to Gary and Grace Merritt. Adam has always known he wanted to pursue mechanical engineering, and pursue it he has. He started in middle school, writing reports on what mechanical engineering is, and what a mechanical engineer does. In high school, Adam took every science and math course offered to give him firm grounding for his college career. In college Adam has been accepted to several honors societies including the FSU Honors program, Phi Theta Sigma Honor Society, and the National Society of Collegiate Scholars. Adam has worked with Dr. Patrick Hollis to model the FAMU-FSU College of engineering’s all-terrain robotic vehicle in the ADAMS software program. Adam graduates May first at nine a.m. in the Tallahassee Civic center. He is continuing his education in Mechanical engineering, and plans on obtaining an internship this summer.

My name is Mike Raabe. I am from a small town called Lake Wales, in Polk County Fl. I have really enjoyed my 5 years here at Florida State. They have been a real growing experience and just a plain ole’ good time. The Lord has blessed me with a girlfriend named Tiffany. We have been together 3.7 years and it has been great. I have spent most of my free time here in Tallahassee doing activities with my church family. Jesus Christ has done so much for us. I also love to go down to the gulf and go fishing. I hope you enjoy your time on the website.

David Smith is a senior Mechanical Engineering student at Florida Mechanical and Agricultural University. He is from Dallas, TX and is currently working on his B.S degree. As the youngest child in his family, he came to Florida A&M on a NASA Engineering Scholarship which enabled him to intern with NASA’s Stennis Space Center near Gulfport, Mississippi. He is a member of Young and Striving, a volunteer organization that tutors underprivileged children, as well as the National Society of Black Engineers. Mr. Smith currently holds the position of Lt. Strategus in the Alpha Xi Chapter of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity Inc. www.alphaxi.com. He is currently undecided whether or not he will attend graduate school or enter the rigorous work force upon graduation. His goals are to work in engineering management and one day be the owner of a company.
