Final Design

Includes:

  • Autonomous control
  • RC manual override
  • Emergency off switch
  • Remote On/Off switch
  • 30+ minute run time
  • Adjustable speed control
Final Assembled Prototype

The final prototype shown above, demonstrated autonomous control with an optional manual override. It incorporated all the required safety features and includes added safety features; a remote on/off switch is required to turn power on to the vehicle and a key to start the blade.

Project Summary

The final design implemented the required components for the competition and tested successfully. However, the system integration between the GPS and the microprocessor proved to be an insurmountable task. Also, the inexpensive sensors and microprocessor were not reliable for long term operation. Loose wires and faulty hardware were the major defects which caused errors in the output of the infrared and ultrasonic sensors. Overall, the project would be considered a successful failure due to the functional autonomous vehicle but lack of GPS and other sensors.
