Moving Armor Target Track

Preliminary Designs: System 3

• This is a standard truss design that can be seen in anything from buildings to storage shelving.

• This design offers high stability.

• However, it lacks the ability to change height as needed.

• All three concepts for leg bases consists of metal legs.

• Leg A. has a rubber base with removable metal spikes.

• Leg B. has a metal base with as single protruding metal spike

• Leg C. is secured to the ground with concrete as it's base.

• In this design an adjustable leg system is created by attaching legs of two slightly different diameters together with a pin.

• The drawback of this design is that the pin has a relatively small cross sectional area, which makes is susceptible to shearing.

• This concept uses a single piece of notched metal as it's leg.

• The height of the track is adjusted by placing the cross tie at different levels on the leg.

• Since the track is supported by the cross tie then as the crosstie changes in height, so does the track.

• This system works by using what is basically a hand powered jack.

• The advantage is that you can adjust the track to an exact height.

• The disadvantage is the high weight of each leg.
