       Objective

The objective is to design, build, and test an immersion tank to be used by Talla-Tech in order to test their ruggedized communication systems to military specifications.  The units being tested must be submersed in approximately 1 meter of water for 30 minutes.  The tests have to follow strict military standards, given in the MIL-STD-810F regulations.

Introduction

Talla-Tech, a military focused communications company, needs an immersion tank to test their ruggedized computer products.  Based in Tallahassee, FL, Talla-Tech is the leading supplier of tactical handheld computers to the US Military.  Their ruggedized units include the SINCGARS radio system, the Tacter-31 multi-function computer, and RPDAs.  In order to be deemed ruggedized, the units must be able to withstand two tests - a drop test from specified heights and a water immersion test.  Last year’s senior design team concentrated on building a drop-test station to drop the units from different heights at different angles.  Talla-Tech has now requested a system to perform the water immersion test.
