Sabot- Design 1

The first design used a plus-sign configuration to contact the projectile. The rear section of the sabot was to expand to create a seal between the gasses generated by the gun propellant and the gun tube bore wall. This design allowed for variability in the size of the projectile being used. However, it didn’t cradle the projectile in a secure position. This would have allowed for more movement within the muzzle for the projectile. The machinability of this design was questionable.

Pros: The design maximizes the diameter of the projectile.

Cons: The design is difficult to machine and seems to have a weak section between front and back. This design has does not control the lateral motion of the projectile in-side the gun tube
