Sabot-Design 3

         

       After visiting Eglin, Design 3, was developed.  A similar type of design was already being used in the Taylor test.  Design 3 provides a full cradle of the projectile with an expanding rear section to create the gas seal. While it was the heaviest design, it proved to be the most feasible to machine.

 

Pros: This is the easiest design to machine and it will hold the specimen securely.

Cons: It is the heaviest design. To perform properly, the sabot must be very light compared to the projectile.
