Cummins, Inc., is striving to lower its corporate carbon footprint and be a good corporate citizen. With this in mind, the company created the Environmental Challenge. This project was launched in 2009, and was based on employee interest to commemorate Cummins' 90th anniversary. It continues to be an employee led program, involving a number of employees from all areas of Cummins on a variety of environmental issues.

Since 2009, thousands of employees from across the globe have put in more than 200,000 hours to make an impact in our communities. More than 300 projects have been launched in areas as diverse as alternative energy, sustainable building and energy efficiency.

In 2012 alone, we reduced more than 4,300 tons of greenhouse gas which represents nearly a 10-fold increase compared to the first year of the Challenge. In total, Cummins employees have reduced nearly 10,000 tons of greenhouse gas, which is the equivalent of conserving 1 million gallons of gasoline.
