This position requires a Bachelor of Science Degree
in Engineering from an
ABET accredited university so the incumbent may
become licensed as a
Professional Engineer in Florida in accordance with
Florida Statutes. The
incumbent must pass the Engineering Intern exam
within one year of hire
date. Typical work performed by this position
will require the ability to
conduct research activities; then condense data into
professional reports
that include statistical interpretation of data and
present the data with
recommendations to management. This position
will perform field work,
laboratory work and engineering analysis:
including report writing and
interpretation of test results and
specifications. Perform research and
report writing. This position will conduct
research in areas that are not
clearly defined by current Department
standards. This will require
collecting raw field data, condensing existing
published information and
conducting interviews or other applicable research
techniques to solve
problems. This position will be able to convert
field data into prediction
models, via applied mathematics to predict future
outcomes. This position
will also be able to prepare professional reports and
presentations that
include conclusions and recommendations and present
these to management.
This position will perform field work, laboratory
work and engineering
analysis; including report writing and interpretation
of test results and
Specifications. Review and prepare engineering
documents in particular
pavement rehabilitation reports. This position
will require the ability to
learn the requirements necessary to prepare a
Pavement Rehabilitation
Report and then apply that training to preparation
and review said
reports. Review and analyze laboratory test
reports. Must be able to
learn the necessary skills to interpret laboratory
test results and based
on those results make recommendations to contractors,
Department personnel
and CEI firms. Construction Support (plant and
paving). The candidate
will have IV responsibilities including sampling,
transporting and keeping
a project file. Will also support construction
with respect to
interpretation of specifications and ensure
construction inspection and
testing procedures are followed and results are
reported. Operate a motor
vehicle as required or requested. Train
Department, consultant and
contractor personnel as necessary. Perform
complex laboratory and field
tests on bituminous materials. Perform other
duties as required or
requested.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
1. Knowledge of engineering principles and
techniques.
2. Knowledge of statistical principles, calculus and
engineering
computations necessary for engineering
evaluations.
3. Knowledge of engineering materials properties.
4. Knowledge of regression techniques to predict
future performance of
materials.
5. Skill in using software necessary for engineering
analysis and word
processing.
6. Skill in preparing legible, detailed engineering
reports and
documenting inspections.
7. Ability to lead a team and perform as a team
player.
8. Ability to write and communicate verbally in a
professional manner.
9. Ability to prepare and give presentations.
10. Ability to work irregular hours including nights
and weekends.
11. Ability to accomplish assignments without direct
supervision,
set goals for self and others, as well as, plan, and
organize the
daily activities of self and others
12. Ability to work and achieve goals in a team
environment.
13. Ability to analyze test data, draw conclusions,
make
engineering recommendations and write engineering
reports.
14. Ability to evaluate and solve engineering
problems.
15. Ability to operate a motor vehicle in a safe
manner.
16. Ability to become a licensed Professional
Engineer in the State
of Florida in accordance with Florida Statutes.
