5.15 Pure Bending of a Beam

Beam is acted on by forces or couples causing it to primarily bend. There are two forces along the longitudinal axis.

                  Bar                                   &nb Bar/Shaft

          (Stretching/shrinking)                                (Rotation)

Beam (primarily Bending)

Pure bending results from the application of pure end couples. There are no shear forces. Only bending with specified constant curvature.
