The overall goal of the Center of Excellence in Computational
Mechanics is to establish FSU as one of the premier institutions of
research and education in computational mechanics. The specific goals
of the center in order to achieve this mission are:
- 1.
- To promote synergy through interdisciplinary interaction among
FSU faculty members and graduate students working in computational
mechanics, in order to strengthen the already existing strong
subprograms in mechanics, and to expand them into new areas.
- 2.
- To foster interactions between faculty, researchers, and
graduate students working within the field of computational
mechanics, with their counter-parts working in other computational
fields, including members of CSIT, in order to cultivate the
cross-fertilization of these disciplines.
- 3.
- To enhance and to develop new computational methodologies for
implementation on the FSU SP-3 computer with applications to
mechanics problems and to share these methodologies and
computational experiences with other FSU faculty members, as well as
share the methodologies and experiences obtained by other faculty
members.
- 4.
- To develop a new interdisciplinary graduate program in
Computational Mechanics.
- 5.
- To develop into a premier, self-supporting center in three years
by obtaining external funding through both individual and joint
research proposals of the center's faculty members.
