Computational Methodology and Code Implementation

Computational methods and their efficient implementation on a computer platform are the indispensable tools of computational mechanics. Their use transcends specific areas of application. Computational algorithms as well as the experience of implementing such methods on the available high performance computers can be shared by all investigators.

Although the application areas of the research work of the principal investigators and center faculty associates vary, we all are keenly aware that computational methods and the use of parallel and distributed computers are very vital to our work. Indeed, we are in constant search for better computational methods. We all need to learn the use of always faster and more powerful computers. This common need is what draws and binds us together.

The following three labor-intensive computational issues are common to all our areas of investigation, and they will be a major source of benefits of the synergy that will be achieved by the center.
