• Common locations of occurrence

  • carotid artery sinus
  • coronary arteries
  • femoral arteries.

• Severe stenoses (ᢃ% area reduction) can have drastic health consequences.

  • Very high head loss.
  • embolization can lead to a stroke

• Poststenotic dilatation

• Fluctuating shear stresses damage the endothelial lining.

• Low shear in separated regions
