Summary
Have demonstrated the applicability of DNS and LES to cardiovascular flows.
The current simulations have shown the following:
- high frequency vortex shedding in post stenotic flow
- possibility of correlating the shedding frequency to stenotic severity.
Quasi-steady hypothesis?
- high frequency vortex shedding is similar
- shear layers more unstable in pulsatile flow
These techniques provide a wealth of information which will allow us to gain new insights into the hemodynamics of arterial diseases.
Currently we have chosen a very simple stenosis model but in the future we expect to move to more realistic configurations.
