For two-dimensional incompressible flows:

Function is called the streamfunction. Lines of constant are the streamlines.

Exercise:

For ideal stagnation point flow (u,v)= a(x,-y),

• Does the streamfunction exist?
• If so, what is ?
• How do the lines of constant look?
