EML 5709 Homework 6 Spring 1996

  1. Assume that the boundary layer on a flat plate becomes turbulent at a Reynolds number tex2html_wrap_inline26 . Compute the force on the part of the plate that is laminar.
  2. Write down the boundary layer equations for a boundary layer along a flat plate. Above the boundary layer, we have a uniform flow with unit velocity. However, instead of assuming u=v=0 on the plate, assume that some of the fluid is sucked into the (porous) plate, making tex2html_wrap_inline30 nonzero. Determine the boundary layer velocity profile, under the assumption that the flow does not depend on x.
  3. Make 9.6 in the book. Compare the values you get with the exact solution you should have gotten.
  4. Make 9.8 in the book.
