OUR PURPOSE

The purpose of the Ford Vehicle to Vehicle Communication System Senior Design Project is responsible for developing an electronic component that allows vehicle to transfer information about their location speed, direction etc.. in order to warn drive of possible collision. The motivation of this project is to reduce injuries and fatalities due to collision by increase drive range of visibility and alertness on the road. The project has four main components: Communication, Positioning, Intelligence and Alert System. The Communication System will consist of a low latency network with wireless capabilities to transmit and receive messages between vehicles. The Positioning System will include a global positioning system (GPS) and inertial navigation system (INS). The Intelligence System will require a microcontroller and an algorithm. The controller will collect the data provided by the Positioning and Communication System to make proper calculations based on the algorithm. The Alert System lead will retrieve information about possible collisions and alert the driver via sound and LEDs. The goal of this project is to maintain reliable communication between vehicles, provide accurate positioning information, calculate condition for possible collusion, and alert the driver early enough for effective reaction time.
