Dr. Issa's Resume/Research interest

BACKGROUND AND EXPERIENCE

Dr. Issa has over 16 years of engineering experience in the field of structure design and stress analysis. His interests are in experimental mechanics and structural testing, destructive/nondestructive testing of concrete and steel structures, wind and earthquake design, prestressed concrete, nondestructive field testing (static/dynamic) and rating of bridges, experimental stress analysis, short/long term instrumentation and data acquisition, linear/nonlinear modeling of structures using finite element analysis and engineering mechanics.

He received a Ph.D. degree in civil engineering (structures major) from the University of Texas at Arlington in December 1986. After graduation, he was employed by a Texas consulting firm as a Structural Engineer for about three years. During this period, he was responsible for the design/analysis of wide variety of steel and concrete structures, including bridges, buildings and offshore structures as well as cryogenic spherical liquid Oxygen and liquid Hydrogen Vessels for the space shuttle(NASA) .

He Joined the Florida Department of Transportation, Structural Research Center in 1989. As a senior staff, he is involved in all aspects of structural research projects and field testing for the FDOT. His job duties include investigating the behavior of bridges through designing and testing of model bridges, full scale bridge elements, and existing bridges. He has a strong background in instrumentation and a variety of electronic test equipment and data acquisition.

Since 1999, Dr. Issa moved to the Florida Department of Transportation, Structures Design Office (Central Office). As a senior structures design engineer, he is involved in all aspects of structural design and analysis. Currently, he is working on the substructure design of the US 98/Thomas Drive Bridge in Panama City, Florida.

Dr. Issa has published several technical reports/papers in his field. Also, he acts as a technical reviewer.

Dr. Issa acts as Project Manager on several contracts research projects carried out by Florida universities for the Florida DOT. His duties as a Project Manager include planning, supervising and evaluating the progress at each phase of the project.

Dr. Issa is an Adjunct Professor at the FAMU-FSU Civil Engineering Department, teaching undergraduate and graduate courses in the field of structures.
