For your second project, you will design and develop a professional 5 page website, with an emphasis on professional. Remember - this site must be professional. It will showcase your engineering skills.

Your website must be completed by the beginning of class on October 3th.

upObjectives

This Project is designed to:

  • Get you started designing and developing web content
  • Help you use the web to market your engineering skills
  • Be used as a main source information about you in a job search
  • Teach you basic HTML skills
  • Fine tune your file management skills

upFocus Questions

You will want to consider these questions in your website design and development:

  • Who is the target audience?
  • How do I want to portray myself?
  • How do I want to set-up the navigation?
  • What color scheme do I want to use?
  • What font sets do I want to use?

upReadings

You will want to look around on the internet for really good sites. Once you identify the sites you like, look at the way the page is designed.

upGrading Guidelines

35%: professional site (would this site help you get hired)

  • organization
  • page layout
  • use of graphics (buttons, bars, backgrounds)
  • clarity of links
  • e-mail links
  • headers and footers
  • back buttons

35%: file management

  • (public_html) directory
  • (pics or image) directory
  • always use lower case file names
  • dashes in file name (i.e. project-one.html)
  • underscores in folder names (i.e. group_projects)

20%: Use of fonts and colors

10%: no scrolling on the index page

upChecklist

  • Did you do the research for the project (web search for the best websites)
  • Did you carefully outline the flow of your website
  • Did you take time to write up your header and footers
  • Did you spell check and grammar check your site
  • Did you check for font consistency
  • Did you check for color consistency
  • Did you make the deadline
