Course Policies and Administrative Information

Communication is a critical component in learning.
You are encouraged to contact me when you have questions or need help. Do NOT wait until a crisis has developed before seeking help; there may not be time to help you solve your problem. The preferred method of communication is e-mail. I check my e-mail several times each day even when I am not in the office so that is the best way to contact me. You may call my office, but you must wait for me to come in and get your message.
Computer communication.
All students must have a SUN (UNIX) account and check for e-mail messages at least twice a week. If you do not have a SUN account, see Tina Lee in room 310 between 8:00 am and 12:00 noon to set-up an account. This course will have an E-mail address. When you post to this E-mail address all the members of the class, including the instructor, will get that message. I will be using this address to post notices. It is your responsibility to follow-up with these notices. Message to the whole class:
E-mail to:ces5606@wombat.eng.fsu.edu.

If you want message to go to the instructor only:

E-mail to:mtenga@ealpha1.eng.fsu.edu
In addition, this course will have a page on the World Wide Web. The URL address is http://www.eng.fsu.edu:80/~mtenga/ces5606.html.
Additional course information, assignment updates and changes
This information will be made as readily available as possible by posting course related files on the campus computer systems (E-mail and WWW page). This will include homework assignments, class handouts, course notes, solutions to assignments and other information that you may find useful. These files will be posted on the class WWW page.
Attendance is required and will be reflected in your grade.
Computer Utilization
Computers will be used extensively in this course. You should have a minimum of two 3.5 HD diskettes dedicated to this course. Occasionally assignments will be turned in on disk, so you will need a second disk to continue with the other assigned coursework.
Homework
Homework will be due at the beginning of the class period for which it was assigned. The assignments will be checked, therefore the work should be done independently unless it has been identified as group work.
All work shall be done neatly and on just ONE side of a page. You are encouraged to make appropriate use of tools such as Mathcad and spreadsheets in your assignments. Sketches should be done with a straight edge and be clearly labeled. The work should be organized so that we both may go through the solution in a rational manner. Show all of your work.
Course Grade
The course grade will be determined using the following weighting factors.
Homework and Class Participation 20%

Mini-Projects (3-4) 40%

Midterm Exam 20%

 Final Exam 20%

These weighting factors may be adjusted at the discretion of the instructor, but in no case will a change lower the grade earned by a student based on the original weights.

Tentative class schedule, reading and homework assignment **. This document will be modified at the pleasure of the instructor. This changes will be reflected on the WWW page of this class . The URL is http://www.eng.fsu.edu:80/~mtenga/ces5606.html
