When solving centroid problems you may want to follow these steps

• select the area element for integration.
• express the area element in terms of x and y.
• determine and write the x-position (relative to the origin) for the centroid of the area element.
• determine and write the y-position (relative to the origin) for the centroid of the area element.
• write y = f(x) or x = f(y), depending on the area element selected.
• solve the 3 integrals; dA, x-tilde*dA, and y-tilde*dA. (be sure to select the proper limits for your integration, based on the area element selected.)
• solve for x-bar and y-bar.
