Experimental Overview

 

 

Using a Canon-Fenske viscometer the experiment asks the student to determine viscosity as a function of solution concentration and temperature.  

The size of the viscometer used depends on the general viscosity of the  material, F  and G depict viscometers of different sizes.

Now that you know about the lab, here are some tips to remember when conducting the experiment and writing up the lab.

Use a large range of molar concentrations when finding the viscosity

Determine the density of the pure substances at each temperature that viscosity was measured

Be careful not to pull all of the solution into the waste container when vacuuming the solution up above first mark.

Repeat, Repeat, Repeat!
