Support Apparatus

For most of the experiments in this lab, supporting components are implimented. This is usually for the purpose of data analysis or sample preparation.

This page is broken down into the following catagories. Please browse at your lesiure. Most of the sections have links to equipment information or manufacturers websites.

  1. Conductivity Measurement
  2. Gas Chromatography
  3. Mass Measurment
  4. Oxygen Sensors
  5. Rotational Measurement
  6. Temperature Measurement

1 Conductivity Measurement

There are two conductivity meters used in the lab to monitor the condictuvity of solutions. Some more information on how these units work can be found here on Cole-Parmer's website.

2 Gas Chromatography

Gas chromatographs are used in the Unit Operations Lab to determine the composition of samples from the Extraction and Distillation columns. There are three GC units in the lab, two of which are in use.

3 Mass Measurment

There are several balances in place around the lab. All are electonic balances of varying accuracy and maximum load.

These are used for many purposes including:

4 Oxygen Sensors

The gas permeation experiments use oxygen sensors to determine the percentage of oxygen in the process streams. There are two different sensors used.

5 Rotational Measurement

The condensor experiment employs a Cole-Parmer 8204-00 Digital Tachometer.

6 Temperature Measurement

Thermalcouples are used in most of the experiments in the Unit Operations Lab to measure operational temperature. We have 5 Omega HH21 digital thermometers in use.

More information on these devices can be found here on Omega's Temperature Measurement Device page.
