Portfolio |
-
Apply
the knowledge
of soil mechanics in different geotechnical applications
|
- Students shall use their knowledge of soil
properties, seepage and flow, consolidation, and shear strength to
analyze and design various geotechnical systems.
|
- Project portfolio on seepage and flow nets, stresses in
soil, soil properties and soil consolidation.
- Homework assignment
|
- Conduct standardized soil
testing procedures to determine mechanical and
index properties of soils. Also to analyze laboratory/ field testing
results with respect to given practical problems
|
- Students shall conduct field and laboratory
experiments using standardized testing procedures to determine shear
strength properties of soils.
|
- Laboratory Project
- Homework assignment
|
- Identify, formulate and solve
practical geotechnical problems
|
- Students shall produce several reflective
projects, assignments, and/or case studies demonstrating their ability
to solve open ended problems in areas related to their proficiencies.
|
- Design Projects -
Homework assignment |
- Introduce the state of knowledge in
contemporary subjects such as mechanically stabilized earth walls, and geosynthetics in
geotechnical systems
|
- Each student shall present at least three
design projects using alternative design methods, or utilizing newly
developed applications, construction materials, construction
techniques.
|
- Design Project
- Field Trip/ Laboratory scaled model
|
- Utilize computational tools such a
MathCAD, spreadsheet, engineering graphics, and other engineering software to analyze and solve
geotechnical problems
|
- Each student shall demonstrate the ability
of engaging in open-ended problems, utilizing modern
design tools.
|
-Design Projects
- Homework assignment
|
-
Provide
the proficiency in geotechnical engineering area
|
- Each student with the civil engineering
major must select four out of five areas of proficiency.
Among these areas must be structural engineering, geotechnical
engineering, transportation/construction engineering. and the choice
of either water resources or environmental engineering.
