Creating Materials and Defining Boundary Conditions
SMS Tutorial
This lesson will teach you how to prepare a geometry for analysis and run a solution for RMA2
The geometry has already been created and renumbered.
1) Open file "ld1.geo"
Select RMA2 | Open Geometry
Select file ld1.geo
2) Select RMA2 Material Properties:
Select Material 1 …Be sure that ID is number 1 in the ID edit box.
Make sure Isotropic eddy viscosities toggle is selected.
Enter 25 for E. and 0.025 for n and press the TAB key (that E is for eddy viscosity)
Now following the same steps…..set the eddy viscosity for material #2 to 50 and the mannings n to 0.04
Click the close button or press the ENTER key
3) DEFINING BOUNDARY CONDITIONS
Select RMA2 | Open BC
Find and select file "ld1_init.bc"
---DEFINING STEADY STATE FLOW AND HEAD
Important note: Flow is specified at the inflow or upstream boundaries and water surface elevation (head) is specified at the outflow or downstream boundaries
In a similar fashion, create nodestrings at the other two open boundaries.
After the nodestrings are created boundary data may be assigned to each.
Use these same steps to define the flow conditions of inlet #2 to Flow = 580 (cfs) and angle Perp to boundary.
button. This is because the head is defined at the outlet.
