Dr. Yazdani has taught most
of the structures related courses at FAMU-FSU over the years. Student
evaluations have consistently ranged from “good” to “excellent”. He has
a reputation among students for being a “tough but fair” instructor, who
seldom sacrifices instruction quality. Teaching should be the top priority of
university faculty, and Dr. Yazdani keeps this in mind when dealing with our
customers (students). Maintaining and enhancing teaching excellence have needed
hard work on Dr. Yazdani's part, because he has simultaneously carried out
extensive research, publication, administrative, consulting and service
activities. His students have benefited from the practical aspects he brought to
the classroom, based on his research and consulting experience. Dr. Yazdani
strongly believes that active learning is much more effective than passive
learning, both inside and outside the classroom. Students respond well to visual
teaching styles (as opposed to mostly verbal), deductive rather than an
inductive approach, a global viewpoint instead of only sequential approach, and
a sensory rather than an intuitive process. In recent years, his courses have
been geared towards Distance Learning with detailed dedicated course web pages.
Dr. Yazdani was one of the top project directors in the NSF funded
Southeastern
University
and College Coalition for Engineering Education (SUCCEED), a coalition of eight
engineering colleges for the betterment of engineering education. His project
dealt with the SUCCEED focus area of Outcome Assessment. This area is a
vital part of the new ABET EC2000 criteria for the accreditation of engineering
programs.
