Scope of the project

As engineering research and technology progresses at a rapid pace, there arises a need for engineers to have a strong knowledge base and practical skills. The FAMU/FSU College of Engineering is poise to meet the changes in education and industry by developing new and innovative curriculum.   In recent years the Mechanical Engineering Department has made a bold step to the cutting edge of engineering education, by changing the core education from a tradition individual setting to a colloquium setting that fosters cooperative learning.  A cooperative learning environment is comprised of two essential components.  The initial component, integrated course matter, takes the traditional subjects in mechanical engineering and marries them into one interconnected knowledge and skill building tool.  Examples of subjects that have been merged are controls, dynamics, and vibrations.  Nonetheless, the other essential component, relevant training is missing several links.  One of the major missing links in relevant training is experimentation equipment. Therefore our design group has been commissioned to design and manufacture vibrations analysis equipment for the department of engineering.  During the span of our project we are charged with the responsibility of qualifying and optimizing a previous design, developing a new experimental setup, and interfacing both with a data acquisition system.

Results of the project

To this end, our group was responsible for creating a device that would meet these requirements. The fruits of our labor was the V-1000. Unfortunately, we were unable to completely finish the project. We have done a lot of work, but time eventually caught up with us. Also, we were responsible for a number of assignments directly pertaining to the design of this product. These are online as well.
