Vehicle Design - The GECKO

The FAMU/FSU College of Engineering ASME Human Powered Vehicle Challenge Team has decided to participate in the single-rider category of the competition. The goal is to create a vehicle which will be operated and powered by an individual person. This vehicle will be used to compete in the Design, Sprint and Endurance events during the ASME Human Powered Vehicle Challenge. The event will consist of a 10 kilometer course which includes obstacles such as a driveway entry ramps, speed bumps, and stop signs. Overall design of such a vehicle will also be an important factor during the competition. The Design competition will focus on both a formal written report and an oral presentation. There will be an emphasis on originality and the soundness of the design.

The point of the competition is the elegance and ingenuity of the design, including presentation, practicality and safety. In order to enter into the competition the vehicle will be required to meet specific safety requirements. Another necessary component is the utilization of a fairing. The fairing is not only required but also will be important for the aerodynamics of the vehicle.
