Pipe Flow Considerations
- Flow conditions:
- Laminar or turbulent: transition Reynolds number
Re = rVD/m=2,300. That is: Reɚ,300 laminar; Reɰ,000 turbulent; 2,300<Reɜ,000 transitional flow.
- Entrance or fully developed: flow in pipe takes some distance to adjust the sudden flow change from the pipe entrance. This distance is called the entrance length. It is a function of the Reynolds number.
- Laminar entrance length Le/D ? 0.06(ReD).
- Turbulent entrance length Le/D ? 4.4(ReD)1/6.
