Recognize that the amount of work necessary to complete a Ph.D. or M.S. thesis is somewhat subjective.
However, if your advisor is satisfied with your research, the other committee members will usually (but not always) be satisfied as well.
Make sure that you and your advisor are on the same page. (Do not unnecessarily alienate him or her.)
However, never sacrifice deeply held principles to please your advisor.
