Polymerization Induced Self Assembly

Polymerization induced self assembly (PISA) of block polymers is an emerging method for preparing nanoparticles in aqueous solvent. The technique produces high concentrations of nanoparticles in a few hours (up to 50 wt%), can easily target different nanoparticles shapes, and avoids the use of organic solvents. We are studying the mechanisms that control the encapsulation of cargo within the nanoparticle, along with the self-assembly of polymer and cargo during the process. Our findings will enable efficient sequestration of cancer therapeutics, nucleic acids, and even proteins in block polymer nanoparticles.
