Design of an axial flow compressor
Axial compressors consist of two members, a rotating rotor and a stationary stator.
The rotor gives energy to the fluid flow while the stator increases pressure and keeps the fluid flow from spiraling around the axle of rotation.
The axial flow compressors have several stages to increase the compressor compression ratio to the needed amount.
Use of velocity diagrams will determine the blade angles.
To determine the average stage pressure ratio (ASPR) for an axial compressor use the relationship below, where PR is the total pressure ratio for the compressor and n is the number of stages used.
