Neda Yaghoobian

Biography
Dr. Yaghoobian received her Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering from the University of California, San Diego (2013). During her Ph.D., she also served as a visiting Research Assistant in the Department of Land, Air, and Water Resources at the University of California, Davis. Subsequently, she served as a postdoctoral fellow in Mechanical Engineering at the University of Maryland, College Park in 2014, and Postdoctoral Scholar and Research Engineer in Mechanical Engineering at Johns Hopkins University until joining Florida State University in 2016. She is an Associate Professor in the Department of Mechanical Engineering and an Associate of the Geophysical Fluid Dynamics Institute at Florida State University. Dr. Yaghoobian is an NSF CAREER awardee and her research interests include land-atmosphere interaction, fire dynamics, environmental fluid dynamics and turbulence, urban microclimatology, building energy efficiency, and computational fluid dynamics.

Iago Dal-Ri dos Santos

Ph.D. Candidate
Iago is a Brazilian graduate student with a Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering from Universidade do Vale do Rio dos Sinos (UNISINOS). He is currently pursuing a Ph.D. degree in Mechanical Engineering at Florida State University (FSU), with focus on Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) and fire propagation in complex environments. Iago`s main interests involve heat transfer in turbulent flows and compressibility effects on high speed flows.

Ritambhara Dubey

Ph.D. Candidate
Ritambhara joined Florida State University as a Ph.D. student in 2020. She received her M.S. in Thermal and Fluids from Indian Institute of Technology, Delhi and a Bachelor's in Mechanical Engineering from Government Engineering College Raipur. Before joining FSU, she has worked in Tata Motors as a Climate Control Engineer and in Indian Institute of Technology, Delhi as a project assistant. Other than academics she enjoys hiking and traveling.

Harikrishnan M.

Ph.D. Student
Harikrishnan holds a master's degree in Civil Engineering from the Indian Institute of Technology, Jammu, and a bachelor's degree from Cochin University of Science and Technology. He joined FSU in the fall of 2024. His current research involves computational fluid dynamics, centered around atmospheric flow dynamics and the transport of particles therein. In his free time, he enjoys walking, acquiring new skills, and exploring different places.

Kyle Evans

Master's Student
Kyle earned his bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering from Florida State University in 2024 and started his master’s right after. His current research involves modeling and computational investigation of particle transports in turbulent flows under different complex conditions. He is also interested in propulsion systems and aerospace. In his free time, Kyle enjoys gaming and traveling.

Dr. Bikash Mahato

Dr. Bikash Mahato has joined our group as a postdoctoral scholar in November 2021. He obtained his Master’s and Ph.D. degree from the School of Mechanical Sciences, Indian Institute of Technology, Bhubaneswar in 2015 and 2020, respectively. Prior to joining our group Dr. Mahato has worked as a Research Associate in the Department of Mechanical Engineering at Indian Institute of Technology, Delhi and in the School of Basic Sciences (Mathematics) at Indian Institute of Technology, Bhubaneswar. His research interests include computational aero-acoustics (CAA), direct numerical simulations (DNS), higher-order compact scheme, and computational fluid dynamics.

Saurabh Saxena

Ph.D.
Saurabh graduated with a Master’s (M.S.) degree in Coastal & Oceanographic Engineering from University of Florida and a Bachelor’s (B.Tech) degree in Ocean Engineering & Naval Architecture from Indian Institute of Technology, Kharagpur. He is currently pursuing a Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering at Florida State University with a focus on computational fluid dynamics (CFD), turbulence, and energy efficiency.

Julia Oliveto

Master's
Julia is pursuing a Ph.D. in Computational Science with a focus in wildfire dynamics at Florida State University. She is also a graduate research assistant in Los Alamos National Laboratory’s Earth and Environmental Science division, working on a parameterization of sub-grid effects of topography and vegetation on fire for Earth System Models. Julia holds B.S. degrees in Chemistry and Mathematics, and an M.S. in Mathematics. Her long-term interests include analyzing observational data and finding new creative ways to visualize results.

Oscar Jaramillo Perez


Oscar joined the group as an NSF-REU student. He currently studies Engineering Physics at New Mexico State University. After having been introduced to philosophy, physics and mathematics in high school, he started to think about how things behave and even more; the why. His goal is to understand a little bit more the universe and with that understanding increase the efficiency of aerial transportation. Outside of academics, Oscar swims, plays the guitar or simply talks to new people.
