TranSystems currently has two entry level engineer positions available in their Jacksonville office. Both positions will be under the direction of a professional engineer and will work on a variety of transportation-related projects and problems.  One candidate will initially be assigned to projects with an emphasis in the design of roadways and civil engineering projects and the other candidate will initially be assigned to projects in the area of traffic/planning and project development and environmental studies.  Cross training opportunities are available in all aspects of roadway, civil, railroad and structural design within our Jacksonville office. These positions are developmental positions in which the engineer learns to apply theoretical knowledge to practical application.  Under close supervision and instruction from project managers and professional engineers, the engineer performs a variety of routine tasks that should provide experience and familiarization with engineering methods, practices and programs.  The engineer may be asked to participate in non-design engineering activities such as construction inspection and materials testing, surveying, and field data collection.  Some travel may be required.

The ideal candidate will have a BS in civil or environmental engineering, have excellent communication skills, and be capable of working independently as well as function as part of a multi-disciplined team.  A MS in civil engineering or a related field, some professional experience, and experience using Microstation, ESRI ARC/GIS and engineering and design software products are desirable.

The program is a 10-week research experience (May 30 – August 4) with a total stipend of $4,400. For students who may have an interest in pursuing a graduate degree in engineering.  They are particularly interested in identifying underrepresented candidates including first generation/low income, women, and students of color.  All applicants should have completed at least their sophomore year, have a GPA of at least a 3.0 on a 4.0 scale, be U.S. citizens or permanent residents enrolled in an accredited college or university, and have a strong interest in a graduate degree in engineering or physical science.

The Summer Undergraduate Research Experience (SURE) and Research Experience for Undergraduates (REU) is a ten week program running May 31 through August 4, 2006.  Participants receive transportation to and from the program, a single dormitory room, small food plan, and a $4,000 stipend for a total package worth an estimated $5,000.  Additional information along with a program application is available through the SURE/REU page at http://studentservices.engr.wisc.edu/diversity/sure/.  The program recruits students from the following backgrounds: mathematics, physics, engineering, chemistry, and other physical sciences.

    The Summer Undergraduate Research Experience (SURE) and Research Experience for Undergraduates (REU) is a nine week program running June 6 through August 5, 2005.  Participants receive transportation to and from the program, a single dormitory room, small food plan, and a $4,000 stipend for a total package worth an estimated $5,000.  Students should apply on-line.
